Cultural tour of Dubai, Sharjah & Ajman
The tour begins with a visit to the beautiful Jumeirah Mosque (built 1979) in the tradition of the Fatimid Mosques in Egypt. We continue towards the old part of Dubai on our way to the famous Dubai Creek. We visit the Dubai Museum hosted in Al Fahidi Fort, almost two centuries old. The history of Dubai as a trading and pearl diving center in the Gulf region in highlighted.
We walk through Al Bastakiya neighborhood, where visitors are treated with Arabic tea, coffee and dates in a traditional setting. The place has been recently dotted with several art centers.
Next we visit the textile souq (market) and take the small boat (called abra) to the other side of the Creek, where we visit the famous gold and spice souqs.
After finishing the Dubai tour we head to the neighboring Sharjah, where we are introduced to the local Arabian unique lifestyle and culture. First we enjoy the beautiful lagoon and the green parks. Then we have a photo stop at the Blue Mosque, before driving by the famous Blue Souk, well known for its mosaic work.
Several museums operate in Sharjah. We stop at the historical Naboodah House, the former residence of the pearl trading Al Shamsi family and a unique example of the traditional Emirati house.
After this we take a scenic drive through the seaside to visit the Ajman Museum, located in a lovely 18th century fort, that has served as the Ruler’s palace until 1970. The museum houses an interesting collection of archaeological artefacts, manuscripts, old weapons and reconstructions of traditional life.
On the way back to Dubai we visit Arabia’s Wildlife Center located in the Sharjah Desert Park. This is the only wildlife center in the region, exhibiting all the animals naturally occurring in the Arabian Peninsula, both current and extinct.
